The Dominican government is proposing an increase in the VAT tax base as well as the income tax base. Hoy newspaper says that Technical Minister of the Presidency, Temistocles Montas supports a hike in the selective consumption tax on tobacco and alcohol, and a higher property tax, according to sources. A newer element, the increase in tariffs on goods and services proceeding from non-DR-CAFTA countries, is also included in Montas’ proposals.
All of these ideas were given at the meeting of the tripartite commission, with the participation of legislators, the business community and the government.
