The Ministry of Public Works is planning to pass legislation that will allow it to control the use of speed bumps by anyone, any place at any time. The proposal would also allow the ministry to regulate the opening of trenches for different utilities. Mayobanex Escoto, the Vice Minister for Roadways told Hoy newspaper that the proposal aims to do away with the current practice of placing these bumps wherever somebody wants to place one. The Ministry will be authorized to levy fines for those who contravene the law. Regarding the opening of trenches for different installations, the minister said that the PWM would require that anyone opening a trench should include the final repaving of the street in the project’s budget.
