Almonte turns himself in

Former banker Leonel Almonte, whose bail was revoked on 17 July 2005, turned himself in to the Police last night following mediation with his lawyers. He will serve a sentence issued by the Court of San Juan de la Maguana. Almonte’s arrest was ordered by Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito last Wednesday. The information regarding Almonte’s arrest was supplied by Police spokesman Simon Diaz. The former banker, who was involved in an alleged fraud of over RD$145 million against clients of bankrupt Banco Universal, will be taken to Rafey public jail in Santiago.
