Eminent journalist and Dominican ambassador to Chile, Miguel Angel Velasquez Mainardi passed away yesterday at 67 years of age. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer that kept him in bed for the past two months. He had only served one month in Chile since the Senate ratified his appointment after a lengthy process that was opposed by several PRD lawmakers. He discovered the illness while in Chile.
The diplomat died at 4:45 pm yesterday. A Foreign Relations Ministry communique states that it and the members of the DR foreign service inform the Diplomatic and Consular Corps accredited in the country, and the entire national community of the Ambassador’s sad demise.
