DA orders Pepe’s arrest

District Attorney Juan Manuel Hernandez Peguero has issued an international arrest warrant against former Colonel Pedro Julio “Pepe” Goico Guerrero, stating that former President Hipolito Mejia’s former security assistant must declare all he knows regarding former captain Quirino Ernesto Paulino Castillo. According to the DA, the extradition treaty with Spain does not require a formal accusation — an arrest order has the same effects as an accusation. “We have reasons and fundamental evidence, from the testimonies and documents, that this man used money originating in drug trafficking”, stated Hernandez Peguero. Paulino Castillo was extradited to the US where he is facing drug trafficking and money laundering charges related to the seizure of 1,387 kilos of cocaine in Santo Domingo last December. Goico Guerrero is currently in Spain where he is reportedly receiving military training. The Spanish ambassador in the DR has stated that her country never granted Goico a visa to stay in Spain.
