Remember to use 809 as from today

The government?s Institute for Telecommunications (INDOTEL) has published full-page ads in all newspapers reminding people yet again that as from today the use of ten-digit phone numbers is necessary for all calls in the DR. For local calls, just dial 809 and then the usual seven-digit number.

From a landline to a cellphone, dial 1-809 followed by the number.

From cellphone to cellphone, just dial 809 and the number.

For long distance calls within the Dominican Republic, using DDD, dial 1-809 followed by the number.

For long distance calls within the DR using the services of an operator, dial 0-809, followed by the number.

For calls to the national toll-free number 200, dial 1-809 followed by the toll-free number. INDOTEL reminds people: ?If you don?t dial 809, you?re wasting your time.?
Actually, when making phone calls without the 809, a recording is heard with the reminder.
