Delta is accepting bookings for its new Atlanta-Punta Cana flight scheduled to
start Saturday, 19 November. This would be the first direct scheduled flight
from Atlanta to the Dominican Republic. Delta already flies to Santo Domingo and
Santiago from John F. Kennedy International in New York.
The airline would be using a 738 aircraft for the daily Punta Cana-Atlanta
flight. The flight (DL 1049) would depart Atlanta at 9:50 am arriving to Punta
Cana at 2:20 pm daily. The return flight would leave Punta Cana at 3:30 and
arrive in Atlanta at 6:20 pm. The flight is showing a US$728 fare with all taxes
and government fees included.
The flight is subject to government approval.
The flight comes in time for the winter season traffic. Punta Cana this summer
was the sixth most popular international destination with the US travelers,
according to a survey carried out by the American Society of Travel Agents.
DR1 sources also indicate that United has applied for permission to fly to Punta
Cana effective early December and Continental will be starting Houston-Punta
Cana this December, too.
