Police chief Major General Manuel de Jesus Perez said in a press conference yesterday that Miguel Antonio Bello Perez, assistant to former president of the collapsed Baninter bank, Ramon Baez Figueroa, was murdered by assailants who were after the RD$6 million he had cashed at the Solano exchange bureau last Wednesday. Perez Sanchez said the owner of the exchange bank was detained for investigations and an employee, Elis Antonio Perez Vargas is a suspect, but is on the run. Perez met with journalists at the Presidential Palace. “We know for sure that this person (Bello Perez) went to exchange more than RD$5 million at Casa Solano, left the exchange house and after driving less than two kilometers was ambushed by several individuals on the overpass at 27 de Febrero Avenue.” Bello’s body received four fatal bullet wounds. The vehicle had 17 bullet holes. The Police found a mat from the vehicle on the pavement outside the pick-up the victim was driving. “We are sure that the motive was to steal the money he had just taken out of the exchange bureau where he would usually go to change money,” he told the journalists.
