Metro or Trans-millennium?

The metro and the trans-millennium were presented yesterday as the two most viable options for the solution of Santo Domingo?s mass transportation problems, by lecturers who participated in the international forum on public transportation that ended last night at the Central Bank auditorium, as reported in El Caribe. Final conclusions were being drafted last night, but several points are already clear. Some of these are that the problem of urban transportation in Santo Domingo cannot be postponed, that is, decisions must be made now, and that a mass transportation system needs to be chosen. Forum organizers said that the final conclusions will be made public next week after President Fernandez has studied them. The director of the Metropolitan Bus Services Offices (OMSA), Ignacio Ditren, proposed the creation of an ?umbrella? organization, such as a Ministry of Transportation, that would group the functions in the sector, regardless the type of system that is chosen for the city.
