PUCMM graduate named sustainable tourism specialist

Mareba Scott, a graduate of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) is the new Sustainable Tourism Product Specialist of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). Scott, who also studied at the University of West Indies, holds a Master of Science in Tourism and Hospitality Management.

Scott has worked and conducted research in Bahamas, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and her native Trinidad and Tobago. Prior to accepting the appointment at CTO, she worked as a tourism advisor in the Ministry of Tourism in Trinidad & Tobago where she was responsible for sustainable tourism issues and tourism policy.

At CTO she will lead the agenda to develop and deliver an annual program of activities that seek to enhance the growth, quality, competitiveness and sustainability of the Caribbean tourism product. This includes helping to develop quality standards for Caribbean destinations and their tourism products and services; designing, delivering and/or coordinating training and development programs dealing with sustainable tourism and product development; helping to create a stronger link between the product development and marketing activities of the CTO and its member countries; and providing and/or facilitating technical advice/assistance on management issues related to product development and sustainable tourism matters to Ministries of Tourism, Boards of Tourism and other public and private sector tourism entities in the CTO member states.

Scott will work closely with Luis Chaves, the consultant for sustainable tourism policy development, to execute the sustainable tourism component of the European Union funded Caribbean Regional Sustainable Tourism Development Programme (CRSTDP).
