A Video Art entry by Ignacio Alcantara, “Ni aqui, ni alla, naque y miedo: autorretrato, cortos y mapas” has won the grand prize at the XXIII National Arts Biennial. Several first prize awards in the different categories were left vacant. Judges this year were Argentinian artist Leopoldo Maler, Dominican architect Gustavo More, Cuban Jose Manuel Noceda and Dominican photographer Domingo Batista, as well as Kevin Power.
Awards were:
Video: Leonor Gonzalez: “Muerte y Amor” (honorary mention)
Graphic Arts: Angel Arambilet, “Sutil” and Gustavo Fermin “Accion Luz, Triptico” (honorary mentions).
Ceramics: Ezequiel Taveras’ “Ese oscuro objeto del deseo” and Luis Munoz “Artefacto para convertir”.
Sculpture: Limber Vilorio’s “Mas poder” (first prize).
Painting: Jose Almonte “Justo al centro ellos siempre estan” (first prize), Ricardo Toribio’s “Yo no quiero salvar el mundo, solo un pedacito…” and Jose Garcia Cordero’s “Perros lambones y funcionarios felices” (honorary mention).
Photography: Aquiles Azar Billini’s “El Hoyo 00-04”. Arlette Cepeda’s “Los pequenos detalles que me preocupan” and Marlen Vazquez’s “Sin titulo” (honorary mentions).
Drawing: Juan Mayi’s “Tiempo despues”. Juan Amado’s “El Taller de los hipocritas” and Raul Recio’s “La patica de puerco no alcanza” (honorary mentions).
Installations: Jorge Pineda’s “Serie me voy al sur” (first prize). Quisqueya Henriquez’s “Intertextualidad” and Johnny Bonelly’s “La edad del agua” (honorary mentions).
