Mark your calendars

In 2006 only two of the year’s 13 holidays are being moved and both fall this month. Law 139-97 set forth the rules, and if a holiday falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, it is being moved to the following Monday. This year only Three Kings Day, which falls on a Friday (6 January) and will be moved to Monday 9 January and Duarte Day, 26 January and will be moved to Monday 30 January, are changed. The rest will be observed on their normal dates, some of which are never moved. 21 January is the Feast of Our Lady of Grace, the patroness of the Dominican Republic, 27 February is Independence Day, 14 April is Good Friday, 1 May is May Day or Labor Day, 16 May is election Day, 15 June is Corpus Cristi, 16 August is Restoration Day, 24 September is the feast of Our Lady of Mercy, 6 November is Constitution Day and 25 December is Christmas Day.
