Trujillo’s home converted into school

Former dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo’s vacation home in San Cristobal is being transformed into the National Penitentiary School, where training in penitentiary treatment will be given to prison wardens. As reported by Diario Libre, the once-luxurious property, known as the “Castle on the Hill”, is undergoing refurbishment by the government with an investment totaling RD$10 million. The residence will now contain 10 classrooms for 30 students each, for theory and 10 classrooms for practice. In addition, an annex will house the kitchen, dining hall, pantry and laundry, which will be able to serve 450 persons. Dormitories are also being built with a capacity of 400 persons. Other facilities will include a reception area, a 50-vehicle parking lot, warehouse and security room. The school is scheduled to open on 27 January 2006.
