The Dominican Republic and Belize are taking part in a pilot project for an international database designed by the Organization of American States (OAS), in which both countries’ Customs departments will register their citizens’ information, allowing the other country to obtain details about the individuals’ background easily. Listin Diario reports that this information was offered by Bertha Santoscoy, OAS representative in the DR, who said the program would be extended to the other countries in the hemisphere. This is a very sophisticated system that will serve to support the information in the different countries and their customs departments will be able to know if an individual who shows up at customs in own country is a terrorist, or wanted by the International Police.
