Cardinal Nicolas Lopez Rodriguez has stated that several “European and North American” powers are trying to “abusively” impose unacceptable conditions on the DR when it comes to Haitian immigration, according to a report by El Caribe. The prelate admits however, that there is no “authentic” migratory policy in the country with regards to the neighboring nation. He appealed to the international community to take on responsibility for Haiti’s situation instead of leaving the DR to cope alone. “We don’t have the capacity to deal with Haiti’s problems. There is no health or education there. It is a disorganized country and that is the reason why an international response is required” said the leader of the Catholic Church.
