Rains wreak havoc in Puerto Plata

Sixty families left out in the rain, a score of houses carried away by the River Camu, and landslides that cut the Santiago-Puerto Plata highway is the toll of the recent heavy rains along the North Coast. The barrios called Buen Pan, Los Perez, Los Cartones, El Mango, El Tamarindo, and El Anon, all in the Monte Llano area, suffered damage. In the town of Monte Llano, a police station and a Central Bank housing project were dangerously close to sliding into the river. Local organizations were asking the government for help, and there were some complaints that Frank Rodriguez, the head of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI) had not responded to their call to divert the Camu River.
