Decree No. 8-06 issued last night by the Executive Branch calls senators and deputies to hold an extraordinary legislature to finalize debates and pass the 2006 Budget and Public Expense bill and other bills of interest to the government. Listin Diario reports that the information was disclosed by Presidential Technical Secretary Temistocles Montas, who warned lawmakers that if the Budget is not passed during the new period the Executive Branch would have to continue operating with last year’s budget. In this case, new talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would have to be opened to discuss the Stand-by arrangement. The extraordinary legislature will extend until 15 February.
