Beginning in March, intercity calls within the same province will be free, as the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (INDOTEL) puts the Fundamental Technical Guiding Plan into action. The plan, which goes into effect in March and ends in December of 2007, consists of organizing the telephone networks in such a way as to eliminate long distance charges within a province and to reduce the costs at the same time. The INDOTEL chiefs expounded on their plan at a meeting with El Caribe Multimedia personnel yesterday. The first part of the plan will be piloted in several Dominican provinces: Baoruco, Elias Pina, Monsenor Nouel, Salcedo, Valverde, Pedernales, Dajabon and Independencia. In a small province such as Valverde, for instance, calls between Mao, Laguna Salada, Esperanza and La Mina will count as local calls.
