DA warns Pepe

District Attorney Jose Manuel Hernandez Peguero has warned retired colonel Pedro Julio “Pepe” Goico Guerrero that it would be “most convenient” for him to come back from Spain to defend himself against the accusations of alleged laundering of money obtained from drug trafficking because otherwise he will be extradited. According to the DA, there is a court-ratified arrest warrant against Goico and he is evading justice. A habeas corpus recourse in his favor was rejected. The Justice Department considers that Goico was involved in the Quirino Ernesto Paulino Catillo drug-trafficking and money-laundering case. Paulino is in custody in the US awaiting trial for his involvement in the case of 1,387 kilos of cocaine that were seized in Santo Domingo 18 December 2004. Goico purchased a helicopter on behalf of Paulino, and paid US$600,000 in cash for the transaction.
