The Meritorious Students’ Awards were presented yesterday by President Leonel Fernandez at the Presidential Palace. During the ceremony, 342 students and 18 teachers were commended for their extra efforts. Diario Libre reports that eleven-year-old Maxiel Elizabeth Garcia, from Santiago, obtained the highest academic score with a 99.77 average.
