800 Haitians deported in three days

The Migration Department in Santiago has arrested and deported 300 illegal Haitian migrants during operations performed in different locations across the province. In less than three days, 800 Haitians have been deported. Migration Officials and the National Army in the Northern Region of the country have arrested a further 200, bringing the total of detainees to over 1,000, according to the Haitian Affairs Department. Operations have taken place in Licey al Medio, Tamboril, the southern part of Santiago, and Gurabo. Most detainees were working on farms and agribusinesses in those communities. According to the Haitian Affairs Department, the search for illegal migrants has increased following last week’s tragic incident in which 25 people died while being smuggled into the country.
