Dialogue sought for approval of budget

Chamber of Deputies President Alfredo Pacheco said yesterday that the Senate is engaged in discussions aimed at studying and approving the 2006 National Budget. Pacheco is supporting the proposal by PRSC Senator German Castro Garcia who suggests holding a meeting with President Leonel Fernandez and all lawmakers to find a solution to the impasse that is holding back the approval of dozens of other important bills as well as the budget. “The government and Congress must meet to find an agreement that will allow the budget to be approved with several variations,” said Pacheco. Contrary to the position of other PRD leaders, Pacheco believes that the budget needs to be approved, because otherwise the Executive Branch would handle some RD$30 billion without supervision.
