The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (INDOTEL) will provide virtual rooms and an Information Technology classroom to the “safe neighborhoods” included in the Citizen’s Security Plan, as reported by Diario Libre. Also, on 31 January 2006, an IT system will be put in operation for the Police Department at a cost of RD$80 million, according to the paper. INDOTEL President Jose Rafael Vargas delivered 10 computers to the Criminal Investigations Department yesterday.
El Caribe reports that the IT system will provide the Police Department with a platform that will be able to connect with other national and international investigative organizations, such as the International Police (Interpol) and the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
