While most political candidates for congressional posts are counting on the strength of their faces on billboards in their jurisdictions, former legal consultant to the Central Bank Eduardo Jorge Prats has been writing in the press about bills he would present. In Hoy newspaper, he writes about a proposal for a Law of Citizen Security. He aspires to be voted senator for the National District and is running on the Partido Revolucionario Social Democrata ticket. His bill seeks to reconcile the rights of citizens to a civilized life, free of crime, and within their constitutional rights, and contribute to the creation of an effective and community-oriented policy, which is adequately funded. The law contemplates a bottom-up approach to security, bringing together community organizations, neighborhood committees, parents associations, barrio clubs, schools and churches in an effort to prevent crime.
