La Vega to Moca protest

The communities along the road from La Vega to Moca have decided to make their mark in the mindset of government that has continued to ignore their plight for the main road to be repaired. The community called for 48-hour protests that have turned violent with the downing of electricity poles and burning of tires to impede the passing of vehicles. The government arrested a grade school teacher, as reported in El Caribe newspaper. Communities that are protesting are Rio Seco, Los Martinez, Incha, Guanabano, El Naranjal, Rio Verde, Carrera de Palma and Cayetano Germosen. Juan Ramon Fajardo, interviewed by El Caribe, explained that hundreds of farmers are going bankrupt because the poor condition of the road is a deterrent for transporters to carry their produce. Another lady, Altagracia Garcia said that all the dirt generated by the road has caused her pneumonia. The Ministry of Public Works has repeatedly promised to fix the road. But this has not been happening.
