The Ministry of Foreign Relations has asked Israel for an explanation regarding an incident in which the wife of the Dominican ambassador, Leonardo Cohen, was beaten by police agents in Hertzelia Pituah. Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso has stated that he is waiting for the Israeli Embassy’s reply so the DR can assume an official position regarding the incident. El Caribe reports that the Israeli authorities have reportedly apologized to the Dominican mission in that country for the incident, which was apparently caused by police agents searching for illegal workers. Jerusalem’s daily newspaper Yediot Aharonot published a note stating that the police officers did not know that the house was inhabited by foreign diplomats.
