AMET behaving

The officers of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (AMET) are no longer retaining offenders’ driving licenses, according to Diario Libre. However, the methodology for recording the violation of the traffic laws is the same as before-on paper. The new technology will not be available for three months or so, according to the paper. For drivers, the new regime is a blessing, even though the system is not yet fully computerized. Drivers consulted called the new measure “very positive” mostly because it removes the need to go to the AMET headquarters and stand in long lines in order to have a license returned upon payment of a fine. The new system will interconnect the National Police, AMET, Passports, and Internal Revenue. All these agencies will have access to the information in the system. Traffic magistrate Bertha Byas told Diario Libre that payment of fines for traffic violations is “the same as ever, because the law hasn’t changed.”
