Opportunities within DR-CAFTA

The National Competitiveness Council, together with the US Embassy, the American Chamber of Commerce and the Fundacion Global Democracia y Desarrollo are hosting workshops on DR-CAFTA nationwide. They are releasing results of research compiled by the firm of Araujo Ibarra & Asociados on the business opportunities within the Dominican Republic and Central American trade agreement with the United States. The research identified 391 products and 19 sectors where business could be increased. These include farm, agribusiness, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, apparel, footwear, electric and mechanical machinery and equipments, according to the research. A first workshop took place at Funglode in Santo Domingo (14 February), and subsequent ones are being held this week in La Romana (15 February) and Santiago (16 February).
