Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) President Jorge Subero Isa believes that stricter judges are needed in order to fight corruption. He compared corruption to a seven-headed hydra: when one is cut off, more heads start growing. According to a report in Diario Libre, Subero stated that corruption is stimulated by impunity. He made these comments during a speech in the auditorium of the Attorney General’s Department.
Supreme Court of Justice Subero Isa says that corruption is one of the easiest things to combat because it leaves a trail. “I maintain that one of the easiest things to combat in the Dominican Republic is corruption because corrupt Dominicans steal the money of the people and private money to exhibit it. All one would have to do is compare what they had before and what they have now and how they got it,” he said speaking at the workshop “Advances and Challenges of the Justice Sector in view of the Penal Procedures Code,” sponsored by Hoy newspaper.
Subero Isa feels he has done his job. As reported in the Listin Diario, he said: “The Supreme Court of Justice has fulfilled its role regarding bringing dencency to the administration of justice by providing the physical infrastructure necessary for the judges to enjoy good working conditions. As of today I can say that the courts in the DR are in good conditions.”
