Bush might visit in May

Following a one-hour meeting with President Leonel Fernandez to discuss bilateral relations yesterday, US Ambassador Hans Hertell told the press that the invitation to visit the DR made to President George W. Bush is being seriously considered. The visit could coincide with the visit by the Mexican, Colombian and Central American heads of state who will be attending a summit hosted by the DR on 30 May. This would be the first time in history that a sitting US President visits the DR. Hertell said it was not advisable to speculate about the visit and suggested waiting for confirmation from Washington.
