Yesterday, the president of Aeronaves Dominicanas, Rafael Escoto said that the airlines are not opposed to moving to the new airport at El Higuero. What they do not want to do, according to Escoto is to be forced to operate in a place where adequate conditions do not exist, as reported in Listin Diario. According to Escoto, the airport won’t be ready for another 60 days, although the deadline for the move from Herrera International Airport to La Isabela Airport is next Thursday, 23 February. Among the things they want solved at the new site is the completion of hangars, installation of fuel deposits, a meteorological station, the certification of instrumental operations for night-time operation under rain, and the calibration of navigation equipment.
El Caribe reports that the owner of Air Century S.A., Omar Chain, said yesterday that the two hangars he has in the new airport will not be ready for another 60 days and his airline won’t move until then.
