The Dominican Republic beat Cuba 7 to 3 in the second game in the second round of the World Baseball Classic Championship, held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, yesterday. The undefeated Dominican squad had lost 7-1 to Puerto Rico in its Sunday first second round match. Had the Dominican team lost that game, they would have been disqualified for future competition in the tournament. This victory keeps the Dominican team’s hopes alive.
All four teams playing the San Juan, Puerto Rico round are tied 1-1.
Puerto Rico defeated the DR (7-1). Venezuela defeated Puerto Rico (6-0). Cuba defeated Venezuela (7-2) and the DR defeated Cuba (7-3).
Who goes through to the San Diego, California semi-final could be decided tonight (Tuesday, 14th March), when Venezuela plays the DR at 8:00 pm.
