Royal audience for Leonel

President Leonel Fernandez and First Lady Margarita Cedeno were received by Queen Elizabeth II yesterday, as part of the President’s official visit to the United Kingdom. He also visited the university city of Cambridge, where a cooperation agreement was signed between the libraries of Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) and Cambridge University. UASD Rector Roberto Reyna and Cambridge University Head Librarian Peter Fox signed the agreement in the presence of President Leonel Fernandez. The agreement includes the exchange of information, material and consultation. This is the first agreement of this sort signed by Cambridge with a foreign institution. The UASD has recently opened one of the largest libraries in Latin America, with almost 400,000 volumes spanning all areas of knowledge, humanities, sciences, and advanced technology, which according to Reyna, needs attendance. This agreement will allow the Dominican center to train personnel, exchange materials and information from the databases and receive publications from the Cambridge University Press. Cambridge University Library will in turn benefit from the bibliographical advice they will receive from colleagues in Santo Domingo.
