Two policemen, involved in the fatal shootings of a woman and a teenager were arrested and sent to court by order of Police Chief Bernardo Santana Paez. Sergeant Julio Castro Disla and private Andy Antonio Margarin Hernandez are accused of killing Elizabeth Polanco and her aunt, Yanet Polanco during a confusing incident in the Pueblo Nuevo section of Santiago. The Chief of Police met with Pueblo Nuevo community leaders after two days of violent protests. Protests that saw doors smashed at the local courthouse and major demonstrations within the barrio itself. Santana Paez told the leaders that the sergeant was in jail and that as soon as the private had recovered from some gunshot wounds to his legs, he, too, would be placed in custody.
