Last Monday, National Drug Control Department (DNCD) agents seized 47.310 kilos of heroin, the largest haul of its kind in the department’s history. Diario Libre reports that the seizure took place at Las Americas International Airport and that the drug was wrapped in 44 packages in three boxes. The heroin arrived in the DR in transit from Colombia, having passed through Curacao en route to Haiti. The seizure took place in the airport’s cargo area. The drugs were detected by three dogs in the DNCD K-9 Unit. No one has been arrested in connection with this case.
