RD$5 billion for eastern region

Yesterday, the government cabinet led by President Leonel Fernandez announced that RD$5.32 billion would be invested in priority infrastructural projects in six of the country’s eastern provinces. A press release states that provincial governors and members of Provincial Development Councils from La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, La Romana, San Pedro de Macoris and Monte Plata attended the meeting, as well as officials linked with infrastructure, and agreed on 286 development commitments for this year. The total amount to be invested represents RD$5,015 per capita.

Listin Diario reports that works in the program include the construction and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs, hospital centers, waste and storm sewage systems, sports complexes, electrical networks and schools, and will benefit approximately 1.5 million residents in the region.
