The case against the Clinica Independencia for alleged refusal to treat a 22-year old man who was taken to their emergency room after being a victim of gun bullet wounds during a theft was decided in favor of the medical center. The medical center was fined five minimum wages for the “negligence” that didn’t give Julio Cesar Guerrero a chance at surviving. The clinic had requested that to treat the patient the family post RD$20,000. Health Minister Bautista Rojas Gomez said it is necessary to modify the General Health Law that he described as too benign with this kind of negligence.
