JCE under fire

The Central Electoral Board’s (JCE) decision to allow candidacy submissions for the 16 May elections after the official deadline continues to create problems for the organization. Four parties impeached registrations of candidates made by the PRD, PRSC and PLD parties and said that the JCE is responsible for the chaos that prevails in the organization of the electoral process. Diario Libre reports that PQDC President Elias Wessin Chavez said that his party is appealing against the JCE resolution requesting it to order the compliance of the PQDC-PRD pact and annul candidacies that take over those corresponding to the PQDC. The PRD had agreed to place three deputies, one deputy mayor, 34 council members and substitute council members from the PQDC on their ballot. For their part, the PNVC stated the PRD’s attitude of not complying with the agreement between them was “inconsiderate”. The PRD had agreed to put 14 council members from the PNVC on the ballot.
