Over the past few years the Dominican Republic has been known for the production of great pitchers and big hitters. The names of Bartolo Colon and Pedro Martinez, Albert Pujols, Manny Ramirez, Vladimir Guerrero and David Ortiz are just a few that fit the bill. Today, it seems that the balance is now shifting to the shortstop position, where 10 of the 30 shortstops currently playing in the Big Leagues are from the DR. Miguel Tejada of the Baltimore Orioles and Rafael Furcal, now of the LA Dodgers, are but two of the more famous shorts. Jose Reyes of the Mets of New York, Juan Uribe of the world champion Chicago White Sox are again in the spotlight. Also coming into their own are Johnny Peralta of the Cleveland Indians, Julio Lugo at Tampa Bay, Angel Berroa at Kansas City, Cristian Guzman at Washington, and Hanley Ramirez at Florida.
