Casa de Campo Summer Fashion Show

Internationally acclaimed Brazilian fashion designer Carlos Miele will be showing his designs this summer at the 15th Annual Por La Vida fashion show at Casa de Campo, which will benefit the MIR Foundation. The event is scheduled for 5-7 August 2006. Carlos Miele looks to traditional Brazilian craft techniques like patchwork, stitching, crochet and leatherwork in his designs that have been frequently described as “exuberant and insanely sexy”. His designs are worn by celebrities such as Alicia Keyes, Christina Aguilera, Iman and Sarah Jessica Parker among others.

Miele’s designs will be complemented by Tiffany & Co. gems. The management of the Tiffany store in Merrick Park, Coral Gables, Florida will adorn Miele’s models for the event as well as a few high-profile folks in the audience. “Families love to come to this event each year to see the children they have helped the year before and it is often used as a final family summer getaway before the start of the school year,” said Lyanne Azqueta, executive director of MIR Charities. This annual event held at Casa de Campo resort is a benefit for the Mission International Rescue Charity (MIR), a charity that helps women, children and families in the Dominican Republic who live in poverty, or suffer neglect and medical problems. MIR is proud of strong partnerships that have been forged and lead to its five life-changing programs: Casa de Paz, a recovery center for sex workers; Centro de Familia, a family clinic run by Columbia University’s international AIDS program; Maria Auxiliadora vocational/technical High School for girls; Campo Nueva Esperanza Orphanage and Centro de Promocion Rural Max Simon, a vocational/technical high school for boys.
