Drug trafficking moves to eastern region

The country’s eastern region has replaced the Haitian border region as the preferred area for the entry of drugs into Dominican territory. From January to July this year, the authorities seized 1,100 pounds of cocaine, heroin and marijuana, according to a report in Diario Libre. The drugs are being brought in by small aircraft that fly at low altitude. It is believed that the total amount of drugs that make it through Dominican territory is always higher than the quantity that is actually seized.
