Ocean World Marina & Casino in Cofresi, Puerto Plata is announcing that rock’n roll band The Beach Boys will perform at the grand opening on 16 December 2006. A major boat show is also planned.
Over 2,000 people, most of them movers and shakers from Dominican business, tourism and government, are expected to attend the invitation-only event. Ocean World Marina will be the first full-service marina on the north coast, and now fills a 300-mile gap between the Turks and Caicos Islands and Puerto Rico on the well-traveled route between Florida, the Bahamas and the Eastern Caribbean.
Despite construction works still in progress, the 100-slip marina has been in operation for months now, and has received 250 yachts, including a 168-footer. The full-service marina has the capacity to harbor up to 20 mega yachts up to 225 feet long and 12-foot draft. There will be 200 dry-dock rack storage slips for boats under 35 feet, which are sure to be popular with local boaters.
The Ocean World Casino will complement the marina, with the spectacular Octopus Bar sharing the lower floor with what promises to be Puerto Plata’s first 5-star restaurant. Las Vegas-type revue shows will be held at the casino that will feature 10 tables and 60 machines. The Lighthouse Lounge at the top of the casino will offer incredible views of the area.
As announced, as of 16 November, Ocean World Adventure Park, Marina and Casino will combine the best features of all three sections of the entertainment complex and offer a new excursion: Ocean World’s Magical Nights – dinner, sea lion magic show, dolphin show and the “Bravissimo” dancing show, with time to gamble afterwards for US$60 per person including transportation from nearby hotels.
