Santo Domingo, the cruise ship port

Luis Molina, director of Sans Souci Holdings, the company developing the port area of Santo Domingo, reported that 25,000 tourists entered the country via the Port of Santo Domingo in its first season in operation (October 2006- March 2007) under the new management. There were peak times when 40 ships, primarily with European and American tourists, were received in a single month at the Don Diego terminal, the first to be habilitated at the Port of Santo Domingo. Molina said the intention is to extend the season throughout the entire year. Major works are now underway to prepare the port for the new season that begins in October. He announced the second phase calls for the construction of a marina to cater to boating tourism. In addition to the new marina area, a residential development will also be built where the Naval Academy is today located.

Molina reported that they are expecting the arrival of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Legend of the Seas for the 2007-2008 winter season and that the RCC Millenium will be using Sans Souci as its mother port, with tourists arriving by air to take their Caribbean cruise from the DR.
