Luis Lopez, head of the National Hotel and Restaurant Association (ASONAHORES), spoke at the inauguration of the eighth annual Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) at the Barcelo Bavaro Convention Center last week. During his speech, Lopez said that the country’s tourist sector is doing well because of the diversification of the hotel industry, the services it offers, and investment in tourism infrastructure. Lopez also pointed out that the DR was the leading golf tourism destination in the Caribbean in 2006 and that new golf courses that are under construction will consolidate this position.
