The new place to visit in Santo Domingo is the Natural History Museum, which has reopened after four years under renovation. The museum takes visitors on a tour of Dominican biodiversity. Celeste Mir, of the Ministry of Environment, was in charge of renovating the museum. Located in the Plaza de la Cultura, the museum is divided into seven main areas and halls: Earth, Minerals, Ecology, Biogeography, Marine Giants and Birds, and the Santo Domingo Planetarium. At the inaugural event, Environment Minister Max Puig highlighted the fact that the museum aims to serve as research center as well as to educate the general public in order to contribute to conserving the country’s natural heritage. The museum is located in the Plaza de la Cultura, that this week is hosting the annual Santo Domingo International Book Fair.
