The Bayahibe/La Romana southeastern beach and golf area will now be promoted under the name of La Romana, says Lisette Gil, executive director of the Romana-Bayahibe Hotels Association. A new campaign targeting US and European visitors seeks to show the diversity of attractions in the region, as well as stressing the tourism companies’ commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation. The new campaign is sponsored by the members of the Association – resorts Casa de Campo, Oasis Canoa, Sunscape Casa del Mar, Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach and Palace, Venta Club Gran Dominicus, Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus and the new Casino Dominicus and Tropical Tours, a leading tour operator. The name of the international airport serving the area – La Romana – was chosen to unify the Bayahibe and Casa de Campo hotels. The new logo establishes a cultural link, “Distinctively Dominican”, highlighting the arrival of the first “tourists” in 1492 and the environmental link with the image of the frigate bird. The area has five hotels with Green Globe certification and a Blue Flag beach.
