Soon, 70,000 hotel rooms

The Ministry of Tourism announces that 3,025 new hotel rooms could be on the market in 2007, opening on the north and east coasts. The Ministry records show that there are currently 63,206 tourism hotel rooms, bringing the projected new total to almost 70,000 rooms, maintaining the destination’s leadership in the Caribbean, outside of Mexico. The Ministry says that the new rooms are under construction in Puerto Plata, Las Terrenas (Samana), Bavaro, Punta Cana, Bayahibe (La Altagracia) and in San Pedro de Macoris (Juan Dolio and Guayacanes). More than 400 rooms have been remodeled.

Northeast coast:

Cayacoa, Samana (183 rooms)

Cayo Levantado (214 rooms)

Bahia Principe Gran Bahia (108 rooms)

East Coast:

Aqua Spa, Uvero Alto (53 rooms)

Colony Bay, Punta Cana (215 rooms)

Sivory, Uvero Alto (48 rooms)

Bahia Principe Bavaro (576 rooms)

Brisas de Bavaro, Arena Gorda (17)

Catalonia (144 rooms)

IFA Villas Bavaro (156 rooms)

Ocean Royal Club Bavaro Real Arena NH (657 rooms)

Villa Mar y Sol (56 rooms)

Golden Bear Lodge (168), Cap Cana
