Punta Cana’s first ever carnival parade will take place on the second Saturday in March. This year it will honor fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. Grupo Puntacana is organizing the event in coordination with the Union Carnavalesca Vegana, which runs the famous La Vega carnival that takes place every Sunday in February in the central valley city.
The Punta Cana carnival will set off on 3pm on Saturday, 8 March from the entrance of Puntacana Village up on to the 1st of November Boulevard. The parade will end with a merengue concert back at the Village at 9:30pm. Paul Beswick, in charge of community relations for the Puntacana Group, said that the idea was to showcase Dominican cultural and folkloric traditions for visiting tourists.
