Spanish tenor Placido Domingo is booked for a Friday, 20 June performance at Altos de Chavon, the 5,000-seat amphitheater in La Romana. He will be performing tracks from his new CD, Pasion Espanola that is dedicated to Spanish ‘coplas’, when music and poetry focus on passionate love affairs. The songs were hugely popular in the 40s and 50s when Placido Domingo was growing up, and now they are back in fashion, making the Spanish pop charts. Arrangements have also been made to include a short selection of Dominican songs at the Altos de Chavon performance.
60 musicians from the National Symphony and that of Puerto Rico will accompany Domingo.
