JetBlue fills in for AA

JetBlue Airways has announced that it will add flights to the Dominican Republic in the fall, filling in when American Airlines cuts frequencies to the DR in September. The New York-based low-cost carrier will increase service from John F. Kennedy International Airport to the DR, adding ten weekly flights to Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) and six weekly flights to Santiago’s Cibao International Airport (STI). The flights to Santiago are crucial for passenger and cargo operations. In early June, American announced considerable reductions in flights to Santiago and Santo Domingo come September. Continental, Delta and US Airways have also announced flight and frequency cuts in response to record fuel prices.
